Project Details
Multi-phase strategic research enhancing youth employment, entrepreneurship and hard skills across Community Care Centres in KwaZulu-Natal, Limpopo and North West. Combines SQLR, SLR, macroeconomic regional analysis, stakeholder mapping and field data collection.
Research Questions
  1. Systematically assess existing knowledge on rural youth skills development (SQLR of 2,083 studies)
  2. Identify hard skills needed now and into the future in SA, ranked by demand
  3. Conduct comparative macroeconomic analysis across 6 CCC municipalities
  4. Map stakeholder ecosystems and potential training partners
  5. Deliver field-based youth insights on skills aspirations, barriers and CCC awareness
Methodology Overview
Five-phase approach: Phase 1 SQLR (2,083 Scopus studies, bibliometric analysis via VOSviewer). Phase 2 Structured Literature Review (SPAR-4-SLR framework, hard skills identification). Phase 3 Regional macroeconomic analysis (SARS IRP5 tax data, FTE job growth, industry structure, wage distribution across 6 municipalities 2019-2023). Phase 4 Stakeholder interviews (government, SETAs, industry, training providers). Phase 5 Field data collection with youth across CCC locations.
Impact Statement
